Queen Mary library survey sets out plans to share feedback outcomes
Updated Nov 06, 2026
Queen Mary University of London announced its library survey on 26 October 2026, with fieldwork from 2 November to 6 December. The official invitation commits Library Services to sharing outcomes afterwards. For survey teams, the useful question is how to plan that response before collecting feedback.
What the Queen Mary library survey announcement covers
All students and staff are invited, including people using online resources. Alterline will administer the survey through personalised email invitations and reminders.
Queen Mary says responses will be anonymised. After fieldwork, Library Services plans to share the findings and use them to improve services.
What this means for institutions
Our recommendation is to decide who will review each part of a service survey before invitations go out. For a library, that might mean agreeing responsibilities across collections, study spaces, digital access and academic skills support. Give each team a reporting date and a route for concerns that cross service boundaries.
Keep student and staff perspectives distinguishable where the questionnaire and reporting permissions allow. Give students and staff a chance to discuss the findings with the service teams responsible for responding.
Plan the response to participants alongside the analysis. Set out what was heard, which decisions follow, who owns them and when progress will be reviewed. Our account of connecting survey comments with decisions offers a useful starting point for that handover. Report unresolved requests with their next steps as well as completed changes.
How student feedback analysis connects
Where a service survey includes open-text questions, we suggest coding comments at the level needed for a decision. For example, difficulty locating a reading-list item and difficulty entering a study space need different follow-up. Agree the categories with the teams that will act on them, then test them against the responses.
Keep the original question and relevant response context available to authorised reviewers. Ask them to check ambiguous comments and accounts that differ from the main themes before reporting. The student comment analysis governance checklist provides prompts for access, coverage and reporting controls. Use the reviewed themes to open a discussion with the responsible service team.
FAQ
Q: What should survey teams prepare now?
A: Agree the reporting audience, service owners and review dates. Draft a response format that separates findings, decisions and progress, then check it with student representatives before fieldwork ends.
Q: When does the survey run, and who is it for?
A: From 2 November to 6 December 2026, for Queen Mary students and staff.
Q: How can we make the response easy to follow?
A: Keep a visible record of the issue, decision, responsible team and next update. Our closing the feedback loop pathway brings together examples and practical reading for planning that response.
